Cottage painting in the Ottawa Valley

Inside and out, planned around when you can be there and when you can't.

House on a rocky, wooded lot in the Ottawa Valley

Cottages wear differently from city houses. They sit empty for months, deal with damp and shade, and the outside often has more exposed wood. They're also a long drive away, so you need a painter you can trust to get on with the job while you're not there.

Carleton Prime Painting paints cottages inside and out across the Ottawa Valley, including the Perth, Smiths Falls and Carleton Place areas.

Planning around your season

Many cottage owners want the painting done before opening weekend or after the last visit of the year. Exterior work needs the right weather, so the earlier you get in touch, the more choice you have. We'll agree on access, a schedule and how we'll keep you updated if you're not there.

What cottages often need

  • Interior walls and ceilings refreshed after years of use
  • Exterior siding and trim that's faded or peeling
  • Bare or weathered wood that needs prep before it's painted
  • Bunkies, sheds and boathouses that have weathered differently from the main building

Damp, shade and mildew

Cottages near water and under trees stay damp longer, and mildew grows on surfaces that don't dry out. It has to be cleaned off before painting, or it grows back through the new coat. Inside, a cottage that's closed up for the winter can hold moisture too, so we check walls are dry before we paint.

Pine walls and knots

Many cottages have pine boards inside. If you paint pine, the knots can bleed through as yellow-brown spots unless they're sealed first with a primer made for knots. It's a small step that makes a big difference to how the walls look a year later.

What your written estimate spells out

Two painting quotes only compare fairly when they cover the same work. Ours lists the job in plain words, so you can see exactly what you are paying for.

How to compare painting quotes

  • Which rooms and surfaces are included, and which aren't
  • The prep for each area: repairs, cleaning, sanding and primer
  • How many coats
  • Who supplies the paint
  • The schedule, and what you need to move or clear
  • The 2-year warranty on painting

What a painting customer said

I asked them to re-paint some rooms in my house, and the painter did an excellent job. The mistakes from years ago were erased. He even painted behind the toilets.

Our process

How your cottage painting job works

  1. Free in-home consultation

We come to you, walk the rooms or the outside of the house with you, and listen to what you want the finished result to look like.

  2. A written estimate

You get the scope in writing: which surfaces, what prep, what's included and what isn't, so there are no surprises later.

  3. A schedule that fits your life

We book the work around how you use your home, and tell you ahead of time what needs moving and when we'll be there.

  4. Prep, then paint

Prep comes first and gets the time it needs. Then the painting, done carefully, and a clean site at the end of each day.

  5. Walkthrough together

We go over every room or wall with you before we call it finished, and fix anything you're not happy with. The leftover paint stays with you for touch-ups.

More about how we work

Questions people ask

Do I need to be at the cottage while you paint?

Not for the whole job. Before we start, we'll agree on how we get in and how we'll keep you posted. Then we walk through the finished work with you before we call it done.

Which cottage areas do you cover?

Cottages across the Ottawa Valley, including around Perth, Smiths Falls and Carleton Place. If your cottage is further out, ask us.

Can you paint the inside of a cottage in the off season?

Yes, as long as the cottage is heated while we work and while the paint dries. Indoors, the weather outside matters much less than it does for exterior painting.
