Homes in Manotick and Greely
Manotick grew up around the Long Island locks on the Rideau Canal in the 1830s, and its stone mill, now Watson's Mill, dates from around 1860. Several buildings in the village core are designated heritage properties. Today it's mostly a commuter community on the Rideau River. Greely boomed in the 2000s: the number of homes rose by more than half between 2000 and 2008, and most sit on lots of half an acre to two acres.

What that means for painting
- Riverside and wooded lots stay damp and shaded, which leads to mildew on siding and decks. It has to be cleaned off properly before painting.
- Larger homes from the 2000s are reaching their first or second exterior repaint, often with high gables that need the right equipment to reach safely.
- Decks, fences and outbuildings on big lots add up to a lot of wood to maintain. See deck and fence staining.
- Rural homes on private wells and septic need wash water and paint waste kept well away from the well and the septic field. The City of Ottawa says most rural residents rely on private wells and septic systems.
- Designated heritage buildings in Manotick's core are protected under the Ontario Heritage Act. If you own one, check with the City before exterior work.

What a painting customer said
I asked them to re-paint some rooms in my house, and the painter did an excellent job. The mistakes from years ago were erased. He even painted behind the toilets.

Painting in Manotick and Greely: questions
Do you paint homes in Greely and Manotick?
Yes. We paint interiors and exteriors, plus decks and fences, across Manotick, Greely and the rural south end of Ottawa.
My house is on a well. Does that matter for exterior painting?
It means planning where wash water goes. Cleaning water and paint waste should be kept away from the well and the septic field.
Can you paint a big two-storey house with high gables?
Yes. High gables need the right ladders or equipment to reach safely, and that's planned into the estimate.
