Wallpaper removal in Ottawa
Off with the paper, the glue and the damage, then a clean painted wall.
5.0Google rating
Taking down wallpaper sounds simple until you start. Some papers peel off in sheets, others come off in tiny strips, and underneath there's usually a layer of glue and sometimes torn drywall.
Carleton Prime Painting removes wallpaper and borders, repairs the wall underneath and paints it, so you end up with a smooth wall rather than a patchy one.

How removal works
- The room is protected and outlets and switch plates are covered
- The top layer of paper is stripped, and the backing is softened and removed
- The leftover glue is washed off completely
- Torn or damaged drywall is sealed and repaired
- The wall is primed and painted

Why the glue matters
Wallpaper paste left on a wall can make new paint crackle, bubble or peel. It isn't always visible once it dries, which is why washing the wall properly after the paper comes off is one of the most important steps.

When the drywall tears
If wallpaper was hung straight onto drywall that was never primed, the paper face of the drywall can tear as it comes off. Torn spots need a sealing primer before they're patched, or they bubble when the patch goes on. It's a common surprise, and it's part of why we look at the wall before pricing the job.

What a painting customer said
I asked them to re-paint some rooms in my house, and the painter did an excellent job. The mistakes from years ago were erased. He even painted behind the toilets.

Our process
How your wallpaper removal job works
Free in-home consultation
We come to you, walk the rooms or the outside of the house with you, and listen to what you want the finished result to look like.
A written estimate
You get the scope in writing: which surfaces, what prep, what's included and what isn't, so there are no surprises later.
A schedule that fits your life
We book the work around how you use your home, and tell you ahead of time what needs moving and when we'll be there.
Prep, then paint
Prep comes first and gets the time it needs. Then the painting, done carefully, and a clean site at the end of each day.
Walkthrough together
We go over every room or wall with you before we call it finished, and fix anything you're not happy with. The leftover paint stays with you for touch-ups.
Questions people ask
Can you paint over wallpaper?
It's possible, but the seams usually show through and the paper can loosen with the moisture in the paint. Removing it gives a better, longer-lasting result.
How long does wallpaper removal take?
It depends on the paper, how it was hung and the wall underneath. Your estimate includes the schedule once we've looked at it.
What if the wall is damaged under the wallpaper?
Torn drywall paper is sealed, patched and sanded before the wall is primed and painted.
Do you remove wallpaper borders too?
Yes, borders as well as full walls.
