Trim, door and stair painting in Ottawa
Fresh trim and doors make a whole house look cleaner.
5.0Google rating
Trim and doors take more knocks than walls, and they show it first: scuffs on baseboards, worn edges on doors, yellowed trim that used to be white. Painting just the trim and doors is a quick way to freshen a whole house without repainting every wall.
Carleton Prime Painting paints trim, baseboards, doors, stair railings and spindles on their own or as part of a bigger interior job.

Why old trim yellows
A lot of older trim was painted with oil-based paint, which yellows over time, especially away from sunlight. Water-based paint won't stick to glossy oil paint without the right primer, so the trim is cleaned, sanded and primed first. Skipping that step is why trim paint sometimes peels off in strips.

A finish that stands up to knocks
Trim and doors usually get a semi-gloss or satin finish. It's tougher than wall paint and easy to wipe, which matters for baseboards near the vacuum and doors near little hands.

Dark doors and trim
Black and dark-coloured doors and trim are popular. They look sharp, but they show dust and every brush mark, so the prep and application need extra care. Dark colours often take more coats too.

What a painting customer said
I asked them to re-paint some rooms in my house, and the painter did an excellent job. The mistakes from years ago were erased. He even painted behind the toilets.

Our process
How your trim, door and stair painting job works
Free in-home consultation
We come to you, walk the rooms or the outside of the house with you, and listen to what you want the finished result to look like.
A written estimate
You get the scope in writing: which surfaces, what prep, what's included and what isn't, so there are no surprises later.
A schedule that fits your life
We book the work around how you use your home, and tell you ahead of time what needs moving and when we'll be there.
Prep, then paint
Prep comes first and gets the time it needs. Then the painting, done carefully, and a clean site at the end of each day.
Walkthrough together
We go over every room or wall with you before we call it finished, and fix anything you're not happy with. The leftover paint stays with you for touch-ups.
Questions people ask
Can you paint just the trim and doors?
Yes. Trim, baseboards, doors and stair railings can be painted on their own, without repainting the walls.
Why is my white trim turning yellow?
Older trim was often painted with oil-based paint, which yellows with age. It needs the right primer before it's repainted with water-based paint.
What sheen is best for trim?
Semi-gloss or satin. Both are tougher and easier to clean than wall paint.
Can you paint stair railings and spindles?
Yes. Railings and spindles take careful prep and a hard-wearing finish because they're handled every day.
